General information about the Lodge:

Lodging options:  What types of lodging options are available?

Our lodge is comprised of two separate, private units: a large 3 bedroom and an even larger 4 bedroom. Each is fully equipped with everything you will need during your visit (kitchen, dining room, laundry room, garage, etc.).

Larger groups can reserve both units - basically the entire lodge. This provides tons of space such as 7 bedrooms, 2 Kitchens, 2 Laundry rooms, 2 Dining rooms, etc. The private game room / spa is part of the 4 bedroom, however when both units are reserved the 3 bedroom can be granted access to the game room / spa. Additionally, it is possible to go from one unit to the other without going outside. Very safe for families!

Spa / Hot Tub:  Details?

We craned in the largest spa we could find, and built the lodge around it.  Really!

Located in a cedar-lined room with mountain views, the spa is easily accessed through the game room.  It is available for guests who reserve either the 4 or 7 bedroom accommodations.

The spa features three, 5-HP pumps and 101 jets.  Due to water displacement, we recommend a maximum of 3-4 people in the spa at any given time.

Maintenance:  The spa will be professionally checked and balanced prior your arrival.  Guests are expected to take proper care of the spa during their visit.  Basic spa maintenance is included for free, however draining and refilling the spa - if required - is not.  If the spa requires a drain/refill due to improper use, a reasonable charge will apply for this extra service.

Stairs:  Are there stairs?

As with most homes - especially of this size - stairs are a necessity.  Our 4 bedroom has one set.  Our 3 bedroom has 2.  All stairs have been built to code and exceed required widths.  All are carpeted.

Yes.  We are surrounded by spectacular mountain vistas!

There are many varieties of birds you will see on a regular basis including Stellar Blue Jays, Hawks, Ravens, Magpies, and many other feathered friends, including Humming Birds in the summer!

Infrastructure / Utilities:  How is the home equipped with heat, water, etc.?

Construction:  The Lodge is solidly built for the extreme conditions in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.  Construction consists mostly of insulated concrete forms (14" thick walls of concrete, steel and R-40 insulation), some 2X6 framing, and 100 lb. roof loads throughout.  The Lodge was purposefully designed to be "Green" so that we may enjoy the beauty of the mountains for many generations with minimal impact to the environment.  We sincerely hope that our guests share these values.

Electric and Gas:  Standard services from X-cel Energy

Water: 415 ft. deep well, flowing from a generous, high-volume aquifer.  Water softener and purification system.

Hot Water:  High-efficiency, 75 gallon rapid-replenish system.  Plenty of hot water!

Heating:  High-efficiency, Radiant heating in the floors of the 3 bedroom, game room and spa (excellent!).  High-efficiency Natural Gas furnace used throughout the rest of the Lodge.

Septic: Large system that produces "clean" gray water (not black water), with an underground irrigation system used to nourish the native trees.  This sophisticated system is remotely monitored to ensure proper operation, and provides minimal impact on the land.  This allowed us to retain trees that would otherwise have been removed had we installed a cheaper, less environmentally-friendly system.

The Lodge was purposefully designed to be "Green" so that we may enjoy the beauty of the mountains for many generations with minimal impact to the environment.  We sincerely hope that our guests share these values.

Transportation and Parking:

Airport:  Where is the closest airport?

The closest major airport is Denver International (DIA).  It is about 90 miles from the lodge.  The drive is basically scenic Interstate, with only the last 2 miles off the Interstate on local roads.  It takes about 90 minutes to get to the lodge in good traffic.  Several major rental car companies provide service from DIA.

Transportation:  What are my transportation options to/from and around the area?

Driving an appropriate vehicle is probably your best option for getting around in the mountains.  There is a local free bus service around the the county (Summit Express) and also a shuttle service to/from DIA, Denver and other locations (Colorado Mountain Express).

Accessibility:  What are the roads like?  Will I need a 4X4?

Most of the time, a front-wheel drive vehicle can be appropriate for driving in the mountains of Colorado.  However in the winter, even though the roads are maintained, they can become icy at any time, especially in the higher elevations on the Interstate or the local hills around the lodge.  When we do get one of our large dumps of snow in Colorado a good 4X4 vehicle is a necessity.  For this reason we recommend a vehicle with 4X4 traction in the Winter months when visiting the mountains of Colorado.

Shuttle:  Is there a local bus or shuttle service?

There is a local free bus service around the the county (Summit Express) and also a shuttle service to/from DIA, Denver and other locations (Colorado Mountain Express).

Parking:  What are my options for indoor and outdoor parking?

The lodge has a massive, 3000sf terracotta concrete driveway and parking area.  The 4 bedroom unit has an attached two car garage.  The 3 bedroom unit has an attached one car garage.

However...

...although the driveway is massive, in the wintertime much of the space is used for snow storage (we get tons of it, and it has to be piled somewhere...).  This does not leave much room for parking additional vehicles in the driveway in winter.  It can become a chore to maneuver large 4X4s in and out of the garages past vehicles parked in the driveway.  For that reason, we really try to limit the 4 bedroom to 3 vehicles total, and the 3 bedroom to 2 vehicles.  Exceptions can be made in some cases, and there are offsite parking options as well.

When the snow has finally melted we can accommodate additional vehicles a little easier.

Road conditions:  Are the roads plowed in the winter?

Absolutely.  All highways and all local roads are maintained.  The lodge also has a professional service that plows our driveway after every snowfall of 3 inches.

RV/boat/trailer:  Can you accommodate these?

Yes.  In the summer (and in some cases winter), we can accommodate larger vehicles, trailers, etc.  Contact us in advance so that we can better understand what you need, and to make sure it is a good fit.
